Most people, at some point in their lives, want to go on a diet. Whether it’s the Freshman 15, having a baby, or weight gain from aging, when someone decides they want to lose weight, dieting is generally the first thing they consider? But what diet should one choose? There are so many out there.
Before starting a diet, the first thing you should do is consult your doctor so he or she can go over any medical issues you may have that could affect certain diets. If you take medications, you should already be aware if weight gain is a side effect of the medications. Talk openly with your doctor about any previous diets you have tried and if they were effective for you. Together, you and your doctor should be able to come up with a healthy diet to meet your needs.
Consider what you want and like. Have you tried a diet in the past that worked for you? Do you like to diet alone or do you think you might be more committed if you had to check in and weigh yourself regularly? How much of your monthly budget can you set aside for dieting?
Whatever diet you choose, it should be balanced, flexible, and fun!
